Smalls was incarnated due to a lack of the stimulus reminiscent of my adolescent days. From basement shows to bars that supported a scene. Sometimes we had to travel to Georgetown or Philly. So when the opportunity presented itself I jumped all over it. The name Smalls came from a nondescript off-the -beaten-path bar with no sign in LA that I used to frequent when out there. It was a black box with more character in it's pinky than any bar I had been to. They didn't try to be cool they just were! The bar is no longer there and I always said if I ever open a bar I want to call it Smalls. I doubt we will ever get rich but years from now people will be able to say remember that Smalls it had more character in its pinky then any other bar!
